We all know that having a logo for your business is beyond essential! It embodies the essence of your brand and differentiates you from your competition. Although when you set up a new business your funds may be lacking a little and it can be difficult to determine what you should invest in at the beginning.
That is why Wix have created a completely affordable logo maker. So is it any good and should you bother trying it out, or should you invest in hiring a designer?
Let me start by mentioning that Wix’s Logo Maker is very simple to use – perfect for any non-tech savvy business owner. However, the amount of time it takes to actually create the logo for your business depends on whether or not you are a perfectionist like me, as there is a great selection of fonts and icons.
By simply visiting Wix’s Logo Maker and completing a few questions about your business and your preferences, Wix will then curate a list of logos they think will be best for you (as shown below).
Then once you have chosen one from the list, you can begin to customise it. First up is the Colour Palettes. Now there isn’t a huge variety of these, however it is perfect for those of you who may not be great at choosing complimenting colours. Also, I give them additional brownie points for the cute palette names, like Frozen Pearl! #adorable
Then onto the customisation of your business name and tag line. As I mentioned before, the variety of fonts that Wix have is expansive! So no matter what type of font you are after, I am confident that you will be able to find it…. eventually!
If you are wanting to stray away from Wix’s curated colour palettes, the colours can be changed here. You can also play around with the font size, letter spacing, positioning and angles.
Personally, the best part about Wix’s Logo Maker is the icons that they provide. There is a huge variety of classic, detailed, simplistic and artistic icons. The list truly goes on and on (also adding to the amount of time for you to create your logo). This element makes it easy for non-designers to create a memorable logo.
Unfortunately you cannot upload your own icons/graphics if you have any.
So, after spending time on designing your own logo, the biggest question is how ‘affordable’ is Wix’s Logo Maker?
My answer is VERY AFFORDABLE.
Less than £10 for one logo with unlimited design edits and all the commercial rights. If you are on tight budget, have the time and doesn’t mind that it isn’t 100% original, then this is perfect.
I personally don’t think that the Advanced plan for £34 is worth it.
The only good addition is the Brand Guide which I do think is important to have, but you could easily do that. It just states which fonts you used and the hex colours. But that isn’t worth paying an extra £26 for.
Apart from that you get the logo in .SVG files and a social media kit which I think is so unnecessary.
The social media kit is literally your designed logo in different sizes for each social media platform. I would recommend using Canva which is a free online tool that can also provide the sizes for any social media platform you want, i.e. Instagram profile picture.
So once you have bought your logo, it is important to know exactly what you are getting. For the Basic plan you get 8 variations of your logo (as shown below) I’m not sure where you would use some of the logo variations, but Wix provides you with them anyway.
Easy to use
Highly affordable
Great selection of icons & colour palettes
Unlimited design edits
High quality downloadable files
Too many options
Standard designs
Limited Customisation
Not unique
My overall verdict of Wix’s Logo Maker is that this is a perfect option for those looking to design their business/company a logo if you:
However, if the above doesn’t apply to you then I highly recommend you hire a designer. Obviously this will be an investment but if you believe in your business and are thinking about the long-term, then this will be completely worth it. Hiring a graphic designer will not only guarantee you a completely custom made and professional looking logo that will attract your target market and differentiate you from your competition but it will also save you time and money in the long run. Your business’ mission and values are solely expressed through your brands identity, so who better to design and strategise it than a professional?
By all means, have a play around with Wix’s Logo Maker and see how you get along with it before you decide on purchasing the logo from Wix or hiring a designer.
If Wix’s Logo Maker is not best for you and your business then we can help design the branding for your business. We use intentional and strategic design to help you attract and engage with your ideal customers and express your mission and values.
