At some point in our lives we deal with moments of uncertainty. Whether that be starting a new job, moving somewhere new, ending a relationship or starting a business.
You always carry uncertainty with you but it reaches a pinnacle when things you felt certain of suddenly fall apart. Which can have a detrimental affect on your mental and emotional wellbeing causing stress, fear & anxiety.
I, for one hate not knowing what I want or where I’m going. But over the past couple of weeks I have learnt to embrace the uncertainty and make it work for me.
Mindfulness is the concept of being fully present in the moment and observant our thoughts, feelings and environment without judging the experience.
Humans tend to have a habit of focusing too much on the past or future and rarely on where we are presently. But reflecting on the past can cause stress and/or fear and thinking about the future can cause anxiety. So mindfulness can be the perfect solution to obtaining calmness and inner stability.
It’s also so important to sit with your feelings and understand them. Knowing how you feel can help you accept where you are and make positive actions steps forward.
A great way to practice mindfulness is through meditations. Whether that be sitting down and focusing on your breath or walking meditations. Or you can simply try to be aware during your daily routines of walking to work, drinking your morning coffee or driving.
When dealing with uncertainty it is essential to focus on the positive aspects of your life. Maybe you’ve lost a job or was rejected from the job of your dreams. Maybe your relationship ended or you failed at something important to you. Whatever disappointment or unpredictable experience happened, know that your life has so many blessings.
Write a gratitude list of all the things that you are grateful for. You might be surprised at how many you can come up with.
At the end of the day, when things don’t go as expected or plans fall through and you are left feeling uncertain, try to focus on and appreciate the things that are going right in your life.
One lesson and mantra that I keep preaching is to trust the process. Life is an endless stream of change and it’s all about the journey. You may not end up where you thought you were going but you will always end up where you are meant to be.
Trust that with every mistake you learn a lesson and become wiser from it.
Trust that with every heartbreak you can open your arms to greater love.
Trust that with every experience you understand more about yourself and your desires.
Trust that with every hardship you learn to appreciate the little things in life.
Trust that with every step you take (whether you are certain about it or not) you are one step closer to fulfilling your purpose.
I could probably sit here and write out a load of quotes about this. But I truly believe (and have experienced) that when one door closes another one opens! And as Helen Keller once said, it is often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Sometimes endings can make you see opportunities when you once saw closed doors.
It’s important to embrace that life is ever changing, nothing is ever set in stone and that the world is your oyster. Okay, that was a lot of cliche statements. But they are all so true. So I’ll leave you with one last quote:
Now that these new doors of opportunity have opened up, this is the time to rediscover what you really want. Spend some time alone and getting to know yourself. Which areas of your life are going well and which you could improve on? Find new goals and ambitions. Create a vision board because this is your life and you have the power to create it how you want. Feel inspired and motivated by this new chapter in your life. Girl, you deserve it!
If you are currently going through an uncertain phase in your life, I hope this helped you gain confidence in the unknown. I hope you now feel inspired to take this as an opportunity to make changes. I’d love to know how you deal with uncertainty.
